Meet the Voices Behind the Conference: Our Esteemed Speaker Liljana Kovachovska

With thirty years of experience in the field of conservation and restoration, Dr. Kovachovska has been working permanently at the National Museum of North Macedonia in Skopje.

As head of the Central Conservation Laboratory since 2010, Dr. Liljana Kovachovska has continuously worked on professional development, contributed to the modernization of the laboratory and regional cooperation. Appointed as a Conservator Advisor since 2014.

She is the coordinator of the implementation of projects from the Annual Program of the Museum of North Macedonia, funded by the Ministry of Culture, and she is a supervisor of projects submitted by other smaller museums in North Macedonia.

She has extensive professional work experience in the conservation-restoration and protection of immovable and movable cultural heritage, participating in several research, scientific and conservation projects, relevant to the entire territory of the Republic of North Macedonia.

She makes a particularly significant contribution to the implementation of new modern methods and measures for wood protection, as well as the education of (younger) conservators.

She holds a Master’s degree in biotechnical sciences in the field of wood industry and wood protection. Topic: Wood-boring insects causing damage to museum wooden exhibits – mentor Prof. Blagoj Ivanov, (1999 – 2005). Doctor of Biological Sciences in the field of mycology (2012 – 2018), at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Institute of Biology, doctoral dissertation: Diversity of wood-inhabiting fungi (Basidiomycota) in Macedonian cultural heritage.
