Meet the Voices Behind the Conference: Our Esteemed Speaker Michael Ann Bevivino

Michael Ann received her Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Archaeology from the University of Virginia [1] in 2007. In 2010, she received her Masters in Classics from University College Dublin [2]. Michael Ann has acted as an archaeologist on research excavations in Ireland, Athens and Jordan. She began her PhD in the School of Art History and Cultural Policy at UCD in 2015 and was a recipient of the Irish Research Council Employment-based Postgraduate Programme award from 2015 to 2021.

She has worked with the Discovery Programme: Centre for Archaeology and Innovation Ireland [3] on various projects since 2005, when she excavated in Tulsk, Co. Roscommon, as part of the Medieval Rural Settlement Project. From 2012 to 2014, she was the Research Assistant on the Late Iron Age and ‘Roman’ Ireland Project. From 2022 to 2025, she was the Discovery Programme’s Collections Manager, during which she was responsible for the management and care of collections held by
the organisation.

She served as a member of the Council of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland [4] from 2013 to 2015 and as the Society’s
Honorary General Secretary from 2015 to 2018. She has worked on numerous publications as a contributor, editor, and indexer. Her research interests include collections management, documentation, and archiving; artefact conservation; the history of collections and museums; replicas of cultural objects (especially plaster casts); medieval Ireland; the Classical world; and public engagement and outreach in heritage.
